Re: HA advice needed

Hi Peekay, Am I right you want to have HA with virtualized servers connected to fastest IO Starwind SAN and in case the fastest SAN crashes for whatever reason MPIO to slower SAN? Will save you probably lots on casing, CPU, but above all disks (SAS) $$$ . Be sure to calculate the IO penalty though a...

Re: Need help deciding between starwind and equallogic

Hi, First, I 'm not an expert om storage. Like you I had to dive into this. This thread below migth give you a better understanding: http://www.yellow-bricks.com/2009/12/23/iops/ There are so many things to consider my head spins  . I don't know what brand/type of 1Tb SATA drive will be put in...

Re: VMware v4.0.1 not detecting Starwind (VM!) storage

Hi Constantin,

I 've not been able to resolve this issue.
Since I 've an evaluation version I 'm not entitled to support from VMware.

Greetz Jaap

PS Its a shame there will be no Starwind vSAN for VMware :(

Server log & Multiple iSCSI allowed "issues"

Hi, Just two remarks: 1. Multiple iSCSI connections allowed YES/NO? - After configuration of an img file you cannot check (within console) if the img allows multiple iSCSI connections - The logfile with loglevel 1 will not show this either - When the loglevel is 2 a line with the loading of the imag...

Re: Beware !!!!! Marvell 88E8056 NIC drops iSCSI connections

Hi Constantin,

I 'm afraid not.
The testing of Starwind as a VM was on another whitebox with only VMware HCL compliant NICs.
And the storage I used was local.
So there was no traffic to another physical server.

Beware !!!!! Marvell 88E8056 NIC drops iSCSI connections

Hi all, :!: (This problem has no relation to the topic: VMware v4.0.1 not detecting Starwind (VM!) storage. Use only HCL compliant Intel NICs 1Gb pro and ET dual on that box) Most of you wil use HCL-compliant NICs. This topic is especially for those of us trying out ESXi with iSCSI on white boxes. :...

Re: VMware v4.0.1 not detecting Starwind (VM!) storage

Hi Constantin,

Alas no solution in that thread.
Tried e.g smaller disk added to Starwind VM > same error

Another shot.
Sent another doc with VMware log (interesting entries marked) and starwind log (loglevel 2)

Re: VMware v4.0.1 not detecting Starwind (VM!) storage

Hi Constantin, Sorry, I should have said that I turned off the firwall on the NICs towards the SAN(s). Appeared to be missing VMkernel port(s) on vSwitch1 - Storage. After creating these the storage adapter rescan came up with the the Starwind iSCSI image-files. Then to the next problem: Adding stor...

Starwind VSS support for Windows OSs and APPs ?

Hi all, I 'v just been watching the webcast of VMware Data Recovery. One of the things I heard got me interested. It was said that VMware tools VSS does work for Windows OSs Windows 2003 and up, but not for MS apps. Is this true? If so: 1. What do you use instead of VMware tools VSS? 2. What does St...

Re: Enhanced data protection/CDP question

Hi Constantin, I 've sent the questions and problems I have with EDP/CDP to Julia. (because she asked from the beginning of my evaluation to do so) With the documentation in front of me: - I 've created a new target and run the snapshot shot. - Mounted the device to be able to restore files. - No fi...

Re: Licensing questions

Hi Anton,

It would be if it was not advised by Starwind support to do a full de-install, install and add targets :|
Even within the same version 5.0 >5.2.

Re: StarWind’s automatic failover and failback

Hi Aitor, Well I think I'm to blame for getting this specific info into the forum. I asked for it. And Aitor: Wow lots of info. :D I have to let things sink in. Some upfront, and maybe silly, questions 1. From info I got: running Starwind as VM in Hyper-V is officially supported. Not VMware. Correct...
