Re: MPIO: Poor performance using Starwind 6.0

Good morning Matthias, While a ATTO benchmark shows full NIC load in both directions for a single connection, MPIO read performance is -now- horribly slow. A 128k ATTO transfer shows > 100 MB write speed, but only ~ 35 MB read. The settings are close to default: - 2 x i350 NIC (server), 2 x NC362 (i...

I stayed with 4K as the difference between 4K, 32K and 64K has been neglectable during my tests.

Re: Slow iSCSI Performance ESXi 5.1

Hi Jeff, Is it possible for someone to confirm if 10-20MB/sec writes are expected for your product when connecting via the ESXi software initiator? I'm getting wire speed when benchmarking from a 4 NIC ESX host to a 2x2 NIC StarWind HA Cluster: 4GBit. But it took me a while to get there. What does y...

Re: NTFS cluster size

Hi Anatoly, Totally agree with jeddyatcc - this should be the test based choice. Will be done as soon as the new drive arrives :-) I'll keep you posted. Already did some testing with the NTFS cluster size within a VM: No performance difference worth mentioning between 4K and 64K, base disk of the HA...

Re: "Lost access to volume..."

Good morning, Sounds great, please keep us posted! Short of a little problem due to misalignment of the 2003er VMs (will be fixed soon), almost everything looks fine now. Almost: Doing a storage vmotion of a 25Gig VM that is powered off takes 15 minutes. There are 3 NICs dedicated to iSCSI in the ES...

NTFS cluster size

Good morning,

what NTFS cluster size should be chosen for iSCSI targets? 4K would be default, but I think I've read something about 64K being better for iSCSI targets.

Re: "Lost access to volume..."

Hi Max, as soon as the new NICs arrive for the 2 new servers I bought, I'll setup everything with w2k12. Hopefully this weekend. But I really think it's the NIC in w2k3-storage (Windows 2008 storage server), as the other windows 2008 box doesn't show any problems in the HA-Cluster with windows 2012....

I performed the update just some minutes ago after the error reoccurred yesterday.

Re: vSphere NIC binding and MPIO

Hi Max, I guess the article doesn't mention one thing - binding 2 nics active is not supported. The way you do it is ok, however it can lead to failover issues if not configured correctly. The correct distribution should look the following - vSwitch1 Active - path to SAN1 Passive - path to SAN2 vSwi...

Re: "Lost access to volume..."

Hi Max, Had you any chance to upgrade the SAN? Do you have any update for this topic? I did and I have :-) See next post. BTW, one thing that I`d like to mention: you can show 2 nodes config to your customers and be sure that 3 nodes will behave in the same way. Another way is to contact sales and a...

Re: "Lost access to volume..."

Hi there, quick update again: - added an additional NIC to each ESX - reconfigured vSphere networking - changed MTU to 9000 not only for the iSCSI-vmkernel port but for the corresponding vSwitch as well (   ) No more errors so far. Benchmarking shows 75MB/sec writing, 220MB/sec re...
