Re: starwind as alternative for stormagic

We don't recommend to use Microsoft flash cache implementation. Tons of reasons (they don't know the real workload above them as they sit too low in the storage stack and we do, they burn the flash cells and we don't with log structure etc). So you'd better wait or experiment with V8 for this. I wi...

Re: starwind as alternative for stormagic

Upgrade to R2 and use SSDs as a write back cache for StarWind images. StarWind V6 will provide RAM cache and Windows will do flash cache. Upcoming V8 will do both + mirroring of cache between the nodes (something Windows cannot do). If you don't want to upgrade to R2 and V8 then "magic hardwar...

Target Access Rights

Problems with Target Access Rights The interface seems to refresh constantly, even if I am in the middle of modifying a rule When are you guys going to improve on that? Management of the rules is becoming a nightmare, especially when I have 35 targets or so, but the access rights rules are well abov...

Starwind Free & Hyper-V/VMware Backup Plug-ins

Using Starwind HA at work and it has been working very well and very stable. But we also use Starwind Free for Test/Dev on free versions of Hyper-V & ESXi free hypervisors. Do the Hyper-V & VMware Backup plugins work with Starwind Free? Don't mind paying for the backup plugins because it mig...

VMware SRM 5.1 & Starwind Compatibility

We've been using Starwind for 3 years now, running in HA and now we are looking at VMware Site Recovery Manager 5.1.
Can you provide more info regarding compatibility and support between Starwind & SRM.

Thanks,
Mark

Deploying HA and I have a few questions...

I read your technical whitepaper "Providing HA Share Storage for vSphere" Environment: 2 Starwind servers with 2 10Gb for iSCSI & 2 10Gb for Sync ~40TB per Starwind server 3 ESXi 4.1u2 hosts each with 10Gb I have a few questions: 1. For the sync, is it better to keep both 10Gb as indep...

Re: failed to open cdp device

It was much easier to restore from backup than try to spend time and troubleshoot.
Anyhow this was a test server running the free version, our production is still on 5.6 with .img files

Re: ESXi 4.1u1, MPIO & Starwind slow startup/storage rescan

Mark, doesn`t matter if you are using 1 subnet or 4. RoundRobin in ESX will anyway use only one path at a time. ESX switches to other paths every 1000IOPS (by default). But behavior of Windows seems to be be pretty strange to me. As Anton said, we`ll take a look on it, and will provide you with an ...

Re: IBV device IBV5: client does not support VSS

VSS is Volume Snapshot Services. Entirely Microsoft thing so far. So it's normal VMware does not support it :) However VMFS is doing atomic writes and is journaling by it's nature so you may treat this warning as a warning. I understand that vmware doesn't support vss, my main concern is...should i...

Re: ESXi 4.1u1, MPIO & Starwind slow startup/storage rescan

Wanted to give you a heads up...while MPIO works with Starwind and VMware in a single subnet, MPIO does NOT work with OS iSCSI Initiators like MS Windows or Linux, although the MPIO config does do RR, data only travels over the primary NIC.So we still need multiple subnets to perform MPIO from with...

IBV device IBV5: client does not support VSS

Using .ibv with vmware datastores...is that supported?

This is the exact notification: IBV device IBV5: client does not support VSS. Snapshot may be inconsistent.

Thanks,
