Re: "Device Test Failed" when mounting existing virtual disk

Thank you - I did send the logs when I ran into this issue with the multiple VMs. Nothing was apparent in the logs and we (a starwind support person and myself) never figured out the issue. I installed a free iSCSI target product on the server as a test (success) and then re-installed Windows and St...

Re: "Device Test Failed" when mounting existing virtual disk

Thanks for the input but the settings were correct. The target was running without problems for a while and then one day just died. I killed it and re-created it with identical settings and restored data from backup and it is once again running fine. All settings are consistent (and I believe correc...

Re: "Device Test Failed" when mounting existing virtual disk

I restored from backup and created another target that I dropped the data onto. Once I tested the data I deleted the old target out of frustration. I have installed StarWind twice and have seen "funky issues" both times. The first time was with a pair of ESX boxes. Each ESX box was connect...

Re: "Device Test Failed" when mounting existing virtual disk

Positive.

Rebooted server and there are no file locks on the file. Also was able rename the img file and then tried to connect with same error.

"Device Test Failed" when mounting existing virtual disk

Greetings- From teh Help -> About in the console I see we are running 5.6.1659 and are licensed for basic replication. We have 4 LUNS presented and two have already been mirrored...two have not. One LUN that is not replicated was connected to by a Server 2008 server for many weeks and running fine, ...

Re: ESXi 4 VM BSOD if it is the second VM on the LUN

Thank you Anton- Logs were submitted via email. ESX is fully patched and so is the Starwind box (S2008-32 bit). I left the one VM running with a burn-in utility all night - had the CPU, memory and disk maxed and it performed beautifully... so I suspect that I fat-fingered something with authenticati...

ESXi 4 VM BSOD if it is the second VM on the LUN

Greetings- Just deployed StarWind 5.6.1659 (console) on a test RAID 10 array and have (2) 256 GB LUNS. Connected ESXi with a pair of Intel GB NICS and am using round robin MPIO and switching after each IOP. The first VM after migrating with vCenter fires right up and the performance is very solid. L...

Re: Recommended SAN design for vSPhere

We continue to have very poor performance (15-25 mb/s on IO Meter) and have been unable to find the problem. I'm hoping that if I detail the steps we have taken you may be able to find where we have gone wrong. Below is a summary of the hardware and config steps we have taken. We have also had Bob B...

Re: Recommended SAN design for vSPhere

THank you for the comments. It is my understanding that teaming NICs in ESXi 4 will just generate redundancy and not necessarily any performance increase. For example I believe that the two teamed nics could not be added to a pair of 1 GB ports that were in a trunk to generate an effective pipe of 2...

Recommended SAN design for vSPhere

Greetings- I realize how complicated optimizing a SAN design can be, but within a few parameters I am hoping to get some pointers for our specific environment. I have read a great deal on this forum and also on the VMWare forum about the various little "caveats" that trip people up. I'm ho...
