Re: Moving iSCSI Targets

Anton, Thanks for your response. I have vSphere Essentials Plus which while it has vMotion I do not believe it has Storage vMotion but with VMWare licensing who can really tell. I am developing a strategy to NOT have to move the targets because it does seem to be a bit of a hassle to move them. Mike

Moving iSCSI Targets

We have a StarWind implementation that I need to migrate existing targets (serving VMWare VMs) from one disk array to another on Windows Storage Server 2008. Since this is in production and I really don't want to get into something without knowing where I am going and how to get there I thought I wo...

Re: Clarification on backup of .IMG files

Just a bit of clarification on using the CDP targets with ESXi V4.1 for backup. If you connect the target to the guest OS (Windows) this will work. If you connect the target to ESXi via VMFS then it will not work. CDP needs a client VSS to perform its snapshots and VMFS does not provide one. It was ...

Re: How to setup VSS to support Starwind

The configuration I have is StarWind running on a Windows Storage Server 2008. The client is an ESXi V4.1 system. The guest OS is Server 2003 on a VM on the ESXi box. I have read both the CDP WP and the ESXi WP. The CDP WP indicates that I need to install VSS Helper Service on the guest OS and I did...

Re: Rotage Log Files

Absolutely since every problem resolution starts with "Send us your log files". I had to FTP the last ones because the pertinent one was 788MB.

How to setup VSS to support Starwind

I have been having an issue with Starwind under Windows Storage Server 2008. The issue seems to be to do with the way I have VSS configured (or mis-configured). Is there any WhitePaper or documentation on how to properly set this up for Starwind? I have looked but have been unable to find anything. ...

Re: Support Policy? Bob Boule?

In the same vein as this posting... I posted a message to the support@starwindsoftware.com e-mail and Bob got back to me very quickly. We setup a WebEX to review a problem last Wednesday and that was the last I heard from him. He did not make the WebEX and I have e-mailed him repeatedly since then. ...

Re: Management Console loses connection

No problem. I just am one who thinks forums should be as useful as possible. And it is a shame that the user gave up as the support staff is very good and prompt. I posted this on Sunday afternoon expecting to hear something hopefully by Monday AM and Bob came right back and we had it resolved by Su...

Re: Management Console loses connection

Just to complete the loop as I notice a number of posts that end with "Send us the logs to support" and the solution if there is one never gets out here. This makes the forums less useful than they could be. My problem was simple. I was deploying a Snapshot and CDP volume without have the ...

Management Console loses connection

I have Starwind Target v 5.4.0 installed on a Windows Storage Server system from Dell (NX3100). When I first boot I can use the Starwind Management Console to connect to the WSS server with no problems. Create targets, etc. Once the system has run for a day or so with a bit a traffic on it. I attemp...
