Re: DEDUP disk shows Red Exclaimation mark

Hi, Grant you that it's an experimental feature. However, it is a contradiction to state that the version upgrade can be done and then go on to state that there are work arounds. In fact, sitting around with hex editors and converters suggests that the DeDup feature is far from ready nor understood ...

Re: DEDUP disk shows Red Exclaimation mark

Hi, Just discovered 5.7 is a bit of a dog http://www.starwindsoftware.com/forums/beta-f17/after-update-from-dedup-disk-not-active-t2525-15.html?hilit=dedup#p14188 and although the 5.7 release notes state that you can install over 5.6 it (5.7) makes a pig's ear of 5.6! Can you confirm that you cannot...

DEDUP disk shows Red Exclaimation mark

Hi,

Running v5.7 (free) and exploring the DeDuplication features. A Red Exclaimation mark has appeared on the Device and would be grateful for an explanation.

SQLVDI ntbackup FATAL results

Hi, Since last week I believe I successfully configured Starwind 5.6.1690 on Server Core and published the target, initiated by the Starwind initiator Starport on SBS 2003 R2. I have backed up a SLQ 2005 Std (from within SQL Server Management Studio) database to a newly created NTFS volume (fixed DD...

Re: Evaluate Deduplication- Free Version

This is a fresh target on another disk altogether. It's an external USB drive, wiped, reinitialized etc and new target altogether. Oh, and it's on another server also, SBS2003R2. Everything seems sooth and fine but the numbers certainly do not stack up. Can you recommend a way of evaluating the dedu...

Re: Evaluate Deduplication- Free Version

Thanks for the prompt response. Look forward to 5.7 but in the mean time I've done another test, this time with NTbackup files. File1 is a backup of a folder, File2 is another backup of the same content as File1 with the addition of an outlook.pst. These are both then copied onto the drive. This is ...

Evaluate Deduplication- Free Version

We are testing the effectiveness of deduplication in the following manner. Having setup a target image on Windows 2003 we have iniated the connection to this disk on a Windows 7 client. The disk size is 5GB. A folder with 'x' files is copied 'y' times which are in turn put into a folder which is aga...
