Re: Optimal guest os cache settings question

Another way to put my question: Can you guarantee the instant recoverability of LSFS volume in case of power failure and\or single-sector disk error with acceptable data loss of data in question of being written? Is it good idea to use LSFS for backups at ALL ??? How does LSFS handle disk errors and...

Optimal guest os cache settings question

Hi. Still using XFS NFS NAS,but re-evaluating starwind LSFS. A while ago (around half a year) I decided not to use starwind software as it had some issues. My setup and usage goal: A single battery-backed write-back hardware raid 6 local hdd sas storage on single vmware esxi 5.5 host. (esxi does no ...

Re: LSFS volume grew, filled hdd, now datastore EMPTY??

I feel sad for you guys.

Could you at least share the server workload type? You must have a very specific workload on your VMs.

Unless your vm guests are low on RAM and swap like hell, I can't imagine a workload that would lead to 8TB writes for 2TB systems such as yours in a short time.

Re: Dedupe on free single node license

Hi. Is it somehow possible to get a key and downlink to the v6 with dedupe? Correct me if I'm wrong... but it seems like LSFS requires undocumented amount of Over-provisioning: 2x-3x, this is mentioned in the FAQ here on forum. That by itself defeats the purpose of dedupe. I know your hands are prob...

Re: Dedupe on free single node license

Yes, obviously, I tried selecting thin format too: http://i.imgur.com/j0QptYh.png The button is greyed out. LSFS options greyed out even on thin LSFS, thus making the enablement of dedupe feature impossible. I really do suspect that I was given out some bogus free license, since there is no dedupe o...

Dedupe on free single node license

Hello. I was hoping to get the inline dedupe on free single node license, as it is clearly stated here, that it is supposed to be free: https://www.starwindsoftware.com/styles-v2/pdf/starwind-free/Free_vs_Paid.pdf I've read the documentation and I seem to be doing it by the manual. When creating bot...
