Re: FIXED - Citrix Xenserver 7.x MPIO

UPDATE: it's a xenserver bug which invoke the uncorrect parameters when trying to detect scsi_id of the device.
I've managed to solve the problem to modify the pertinent code.

Thx for help.

Re: FIXED - Citrix Xenserver 7.x MPIO

Hi Michael The scenario you described works fine. But now let's imagine another one , the most catastrophic one: 1) BOTH nodes goes down 2) i restart the two nodes, resulting in having the mirrored sr desynced on the two nodes. 3) i force the vdisk on node1 as "mark as synched" 4) now seco...

Re: FIXED - Citrix Xenserver 7.x MPIO

Hi Michael Maybe i'm not explain correctly. Problems comes when , for example, one of the two nodes is down. The xenserver multipath correctly handle the path's failover, eg on the survived xenserver node the running vms are not impacted. When I restart the problematic nodes (which is a xenserver no...

As a side note: I've succeeded creating the LUN via starwind provided script: same story.

Re: FIXED - Citrix Xenserver 7.x MPIO

Hi I've tried your steps on a xenserver 7.1 with the following changes from standard starwind istructions: 1) not used the script cause it does not work: added the stardwind vdisk tru xenceter gui: WORKS Tested this scenario: 1) switchoff one of the two host in the pool 2) the vm located on the pool...

Re: FIXED - Citrix Xenserver 7.x MPIO

Hi Michael Just to be clear :I'm using an hyperconverged cluster based in XenServer 6.5 and starwind and it works perfectly. Problems arise only with XenServer 7.0 version and seems to be related to multipath. I don't think there would be significant Differences between hyperconverged and San classi...

Re: FIXED - Citrix Xenserver 7.x MPIO

Just a follow up on this topic. I've tried some tests with 2 xenserver 7 boxes with a hyperconverged starwind setup (basically: 2 win2k12 vms on top of them). Results are not too pleasant. Basically when attaching the vdisk to the xenserver cluster all is running fine. When i reboot the nodes all th...

Re: Considering switching from FreeNAS

Hi FYI: i've setup 2 node xenserver cluster with 2 iscsi interface on each node and by using iftop on the iscsi interface i can assure you that iscsi traffic flow correctly on both interfaces. As a side note: xenserver is just linux, so it's multipath is standard linux multipath. I never heard that ...

Re: Considering switching from FreeNAS

Cabuzzi free version gives you iscsi only on loopback (eg: local connection inside the starwind hosts). This is useful if you plan to implement an nfs cluster running on top of microsoft failover cluster (just present the starwind lun as shared csv volume on the microsoft cluster and run an nfs shar...

Re: Hyperconverge setup on xenserver

Just a quick update I'm testing the hyperconverged setup on just one r710 node with the latest beta version of xenserver 6.6.x. Up to now i'm testing the setup with just one node (aka: no replication in place) I've 7 disk in raid5. Just a few facts: 1) on the perc 6i i've setup stripe size to 64k (a...

Hyperconverge setup on xenserver

Hi I'm planning to test startwind san on a couple of xenserver hypervisor. My doubts are realted on the number of phsyical iscsi nic (target) to give both to vm and to hypervisor. Supposing i'm using two iscsi net (192.168.1.x,192.168.2.x) do i need to reserve two physical nic to vm and two to hyper...
