Re: HA Full Sync Requirement if both nodes are powered off

Except you may sometimes want to take things down. HA does not necessarily mean you can not take the whole thing down. Want an example? Here it comes - my own system. Doing some stuff Sunday evening to Saturday evening. I need availability here - as much as I can. So far I run without StarWind HA - ...

Re: IPV6 Configuration with Starwind

Look, this is just my opinion, based on my limited experience, but I don't think this is a huge priority... SERIOUSLY limited experience. See, there are some small organization (like the US government) that demand IPv6 capability. Part of the long/mid term policy. No IpV6 - hard time selling there....

Re: IPV6 Configuration with Starwind

May I suggest you clean up THAT mess fast? Quite some companies (and some government institutions) are forbidden from purchasing any equipment that is NOT Ipv6 capable ;) Especially I think the US government has that policy. You may loose customers. Not relevant for ME personally - I use some other ...

Re: Support for VHD files?

Well, thank heaven with Clustered Shared VOlumes the need to mount VHD files is a lot less than before... It makes not a lot of sense in most cases to mount VHD files fr virtual machines now.... it is a lot better to mount just one large volume for each cluster... It still sounds astonishing that yo...

Re: Support for VHD files?

Any planned date for VHD? After HA I think that is the most disturbing missing item, simply because VHD Is not not "something for virtualization" but "something used by windows".

Support for VHD files?

I know you have your own image files. But given that support for VHD files is now not only part of virtual server / hyper-v but core function of the operating system (R2, Win7) which supports mounting and unmounting them DIRECTLY from the file manager, the missing support for VHD files starts itchin...

Re: Windows requirements - does it run on server core? And more.

Thanks. Just as info: the most common use of Infiniband is as an ethernet replacement (i.e. using a LAN simulation on top, running then... IP). The main reason to still do that is raw power - we talk of VERY low latencies here (measured in millions of a second, once the session is established) and t...

Windows requirements - does it run on server core? And more.

I am still / again in the market for an ISCSI solution, now that R2 is out with cluster shared storage ;) Can I install Starwind on a server core? ;) Given the problems of having a time window to reboot a central ISCSI device.... (which means taking down all associated virtual machines and servers b...

I would love to replace Linux, but unless I can actually manipulate the LUN setup from an automated script.... it seems not to be for me.

Well, then what is the price for that? From the documentation you provide, the SDK is not an API for the product that allows management, but something that is for people to make their own product. All I need is an API to manipulate the product, most specifically: * to manage LUN's (i.e. create them,...

That all sounds nice ;) so, get v4 going - I may be tempted to finally buy a license.

Question: will v4 finally have a usable API? I have a project coming I need a license for, but I need to be able to create LUNS automatically (basically from a website).

You did not read. I suggest you try that next time. What do you think I was talking of when I said "separate NICs". If you have two network cards, those ARE separate networks. Whether you use them on the same IP-Range or not is then a purely cosmetic decision, if you deploy a proper switch...

That may not be so unusual. Naturally it makes zero sense from a HA point of view. But as lab equpment, for teaching people how to set up a cluster, install it, maintain it, demonstrate failovers. You can even simulate hardware failure, but just turning a VM off. That said, I would still do that wit...

What you mean? By making sure that the two adapters are at least on different switches. By making sure the domain uses the second adapter for all domain related traffic. This is Windows Admin 101 (beginner stuff). I have a lot of such servers here. Basically you remove all domain related bindings fr...

No discussion on that ;) Separate NETWORK yes ;) But it does not mean that a second controller does not put it into the domain ;)
