Hi,
Sorry if this is a basic question or Im missing something obvious. Im pretty new to virtualization.

Is there a way to convert a physical windows 7 machine to a VM file that I can run under either vmware workstation or hyperV on a windows Pro host?

Ive tried running the v2v migrator but I dont see the option of saving the VM to a file under any of the VM formats.

What am I missing?

Thanks

Welcome to StarWind Forum!
You cannot convert the VM to a file with a StarWind V2V converter. As a workaround, you can try converting each disk to a VMDK. Then, you can resemble the system as a VM.

While VMware Converter and Disk2vhd are the most common and often sufficient free options, other third-party backup and recovery software might also offer P2V conversion capabilities. However, for a new user, the free and dedicated tools are generally recommended first.
