Is there any ETA of when vSAN will recognise ZFS? Its mentioned in the Webinar as coming in the next update, but there have been 2 releases since and its still not in the GUI or release notes.

I would be happy if there is even a way to add it via commands to avoid formatting XFS over ZFS.

Greetings, ZFS support is already there. You can just follow the procedure from the webinar to add a ZFS device.

Guides should be prepared in a couple of weeks, I believe. Stay tuned!

I am able to create a ZFS pool via terminal, however it needs to be formatted XFS by the GUI to be recognized. The webinar said GUI support recognizing the underlying pool without reformatting XFS was coming. Is that still slated for an upcoming release or has that been shelved for now?

For this time being it needs to be formated as XFS. GUI support is coming but I do not have any ETA yet.

I am currently testing SW VSAN. Wondering if there is an update on "recognizing the underlying pool without reformatting XFS"?

I imported an existing ZFS pool via CLI. The Pool showed up in the Storage pools tab, but nothing shows in the volumes. Are there plans to eventually have existing ZFS datasets show and be manageable in the volumes tab?

Hello overgrown1357,

Thank you for your interest in StarWind VSAN.

Migration from any Linux platform to StarWind VSAN is not currently supported, as there is no existing integration or compatibility for such transitions.

We are actively working on a VM-based update that will enable users to upgrade VSAN via an offline CVM upgrade to the latest release version. While migration from other platforms is on our development roadmap, there is no confirmed release date for this feature at this time.

Regarding ZFS integration, ZFS ZVOLs are already integrated into CVM management. We are currently developing support for datasets, which is expected to be available in Q3–Q4 2025. In the meantime, we recommend transitioning to XFS on a ZVOL within the ZFS pool when using VSAN or considering MDRAID as an alternative.
Best regards,

Thanks Dmytro. Great to hear this feature is in the pipeline. From brief searching it does appears XFS on Zvol performs well.
