I was looking at Melio FS for a clustered file system and nearly cried at the price Will Metasan iscsi work with starwind, I know metasan docs are available, but is that for the full enterprise bells and whistles edition.

I'd take a look at SFS from DataPlow. And if you don't need Windows on your initiator-side machines GFS looks very promising.
