I am trying to extend an image file device, currently 15TB in size I am trying to extend by further 4TB. The physical disk the image file is on has 5TB free space.

When I try and extend I get generic "Failed to Extend image file" message. Looking in the server log I see the following:

1/31 15:37:04.952 148c FileBrowser: Return param: 'DiskSize' = '30005454168064'
1/31 15:37:13.891 148c FileBrowser: Return param: 'FreeSpace' = '4849277689856'
1/31 15:37:13.922 148c IMG: ImageFile_Extend: Extending image by 4194304 MBs...
1/31 15:37:13.922 148c IMG: *** ImageFile_Extend: Could not set 'End of File pointer'. Error 87

What could be causing this?

Is there a 16TB file size limit?

I have upgraded to latest version of Starwind as of today with no effect.

Thanks,

Think I just found the answer straight after posting this, typical!

According to wikipedia, prior to Windows Server 2012 NTFS file size limit was 16TB, and I am running 2008 R2.

Server 2012 has 256TB limit.

NTFS itself has theorical limit of 16EB (exobytes).
