ESXi 5.5 host, iSCSi initiator using Dynamic discovery finds disks presented by my readyNAS, as well as disks presented by my Windows 2012 server, but when I create a device/target attached combo in Starwind free edition, it is not detected.
Windows firewall is disabled.
ESXi firewall allows software isci initiator
I am not using restrictions by ip, or using chap or anything yet. I believe everything is wide open.

It's strange that from that same box I can discover disks when made by the server manager ISCSI wizard, but not from starwind installed on the same box!

I have tried reinstalling starwind
not sure what to try next.

Might it be so simple as I should not have had the iSCSI target server role installed on that box?

I removed the roll then reinstalled Starwind and it seems to be working now ... O well hopefully search will find this post for the next person looking.

You're correct,
The iSCSI target role on WS 2012 R2 Locks the 3260 port, so you're not able to see the StarWind targets.
You may workaround it by changing the ports you use for StarWind in both StarWind management console and vSphere iSCSI initiator dynamic discovery window.
