How big is max allowed for L1 cache in the free edition?
Should I do write back or write through for each cache?

We don't limit amount of cache for L1 and L2.

L1 (RAM) should be write-back (*) and L2 would be automatically reverted to write-thru (read acceleration) later.

* HA mode. Non-HA should be all-write thru as write-back with RAM is too dangerous if you run single controller setup.
