Hi,

I'm evaluating the CVM version, and so far it looks great. I've built a 2 node setup, and added LUNs via PowerShell.

I notice that the OS is Ubuntu 20.04. A few questions before I try anything myself:
1 .Is there plans to use a newer version of OS?
2. Am I safe to perform a release upgrade to 22.04, and then 24.04 (if it allows)?

Thanks.

Hello bkdilse,

Thank you for your interest in StarWind Virtual SAN.

To address your questions:

Yes, we are planning to transition to a newer OS as part of our ongoing development efforts. While we cannot disclose specific details at this time, the transition is scheduled for Q2–Q3 2025. A migration utility will be provided to ensure a seamless upgrade, transferring all configurations with minimal downtime.

We strongly advise against performing a manual release upgrade to Ubuntu 22.04 or 24.04. The current VSAN Controller Virtual Machine is thoroughly tested on Ubuntu 20.04, and any unauthorized OS upgrade could introduce instability or unsupported configurations. Additionally, StarWind provides full support for VSAN CVM, ensuring stability and security even beyond Ubuntu 20.04’s EOL in April 2025.

If you have specific requirements or concerns, please reach out to us before making any OS modifications. We are happy to provide tailored guidance to ensure your setup remains stable and fully supported.
Best regards,

Hi Dmytro,

Thanks for your response. I'll stay with Ubuntu 20.04, for now.
Good to hear about the migration options.

Thanks,
