iSCSI over WAN

Will this work with your product? I have set it up on a Windows 2008 server. I can access the Starwind virtual disk ok from a Windows XP initiator on the LAN, but when I try to access it from the internet by adding the Target Portal, I get 'Connection failed'. I am doing it the same way as I did from the internal LAN pc. Is there something different you need to do with CHAP? I've tried every combination of CHAP with and without mutual authentication and can't get it to work. The ports 3260 and 3261 are open on the firewall.

Hello,

Are you able to ping between the two boxes? Also, on the firewall side, you have opened ports for 3260 and 3261 is that for public, private, and domain? You will want to make sure that you have the ports open for public and private. As a quick test, simply turn the firewall off on both ends and try to connect, if you are able to connect at that point we at least know where you need to make your adjustments. Also, when you talk about a WAN I assume that ports are open on all routers and switched (in some cases a port forwarding rule may need to be applied).

If you could start with checking some of these above basics, and let me know how you do, and we can go from there.

Thank you for your interest in StarWind!

Bob, I went ahead and tried the ping test assuming that there would be no problem. I was surprised to find that when I ran the ping test, I received the 'Destination specified is invalid.' error. Turns out that the Comcast tech gave me the wrong first useable IP and I had the router setup on that. Strangely enough, I could get out to the internet, but couldn't communicate with other static IP's on the subnet. After changing that, all is working great now. Thanks!
