add target>hard disk->advanced virtual->snapshot and CDP..->create new virtual disk-->next(file's created at the point)->next->you get prompted that "the following devices will be added"
if you "back" and then "next" again, an error message says "specified file already exists"
i would expect the file to be created when user click on "finish", not before.

We create file and reserve free space after naming the disk, not after pushing the "Finish" button.

I don't think a user would expected a file be left on the disk after he canceled an operation to create a device.
well, no biggie, just a small refinement.
