is conversion between 2 different device types going to be supported? e.g. from mirror to snapshot and CDP
can device setting be changed after the device's created in the future?
all without downtime to the client.

If you create a Snapshot and CDP file, you choose an source image file, and then create another file, not *.img but *.ibv as snapshot. But you can use usual *.img file for mirroring or HA.
