hello:

i have been trying to use starwind (v.5.4.1579) with several esxi guests and have begun receiving the following message when i try to connect to a host-

StarWind service not found on host

i have checked windows 7 services and the starwind service is started and set to auto/delayed. a reboot didnt help. i have built several other hosts within the starwind server with different ips (including 127.0.0.1) but no luck.

any help you may be able to provide would be greatly appreciated.

thanks in advance,
js

Starting option is set to auto/delayed is made specially to be sure, that StarWind will be started after all network services of Windows, and OS will get its IP for sure.
You can go to %Program Files%/StarWind Software/StarWind/logs and look into log file what is the reason of your problem. Also please check your password. And keep me updated :)

one other question- can you please point me to where the password is set? i have tried to use anonymous, basic & chap in my testing. i want to be sure that the password wasnt changed and that is causing the connection to fail.

thanks,

Nice to know you're fine now :) It's a pity we did not manage to pinpoint and fix the issue however :) Hope somebody else will hit it one day :)

I think I just figured this one out. I ran into this problem on a server I just setup, but then moved to a different VLAN for management. After inspecting the Starwind.cfg file in the program directory, I notices a reference to the old IP address in the CTLInterface tag: <CtlInterface value="x.x.x.x"/>. I updated the IP address, restarted the Starwind Service, and was able to reconnect. I don't believe a reinstallation was needed. I hope this helps anyone who finds themselves in this situation.

Best,

Chris
