Hi All,

I'm in the process of setting up Starwind in HA mode to host ESXi VMs. My ESXi hosts are all currently v3.5 (although hoping to upgrade once I have the HA SAN running)

I have a few questions on this setup:
  • Can anyone list the restrictions I will have with using ESXi3.5? I am aware that Jumbo frames are not supported, and it seems that HA seems to only work in Active-Passive mode - unless I've mis-configured something)
  • When testing HA, I seem to be getting different results depending on how I kill the connection to a SAN host. For example, pulling the SAN network cables from the primary/active SAN host works fine with the second SAN host taking over. However when I kill the StarWind process on the primary/active SAN host, my ESXi host will completely freeze and only respond again when I pull the SAN network cables (obviously then without a connection to the SAN). Again, is this a result of using ESXi3.5 or have I mis-configured something?
Any advice on this setup is more than welcome.
Thanks.

Hi, first of all it is better to use 4.0 and higher ESX versions.
In order to work via both pathes you need to go to the datastore properties and set the round robin mpio policy.
The second issue is solved by implementing the above mentioned.
Feel free to ask any questions if you get confused with something.
