Looking for positive criticism, comments or feedback on my proposed build.

2008 R2 with Hyper-V, bootdisk will be 2x 73 or 146 gb SAS Raid 1 using the onboard Intel controller.
I'm interested in a multipath solution, hence the use of 2x Raid HBA

This setup should be very scalable since the 9280 card supports up to 240 HDD?

Chassis: 3x SuperMicro SC216E26-R1200LPB http://www.supermicro.com/products/chas ... 1200LP.cfm
Raid HBA: 2x LSI 92804i4e http://www.lsi.com/storage_home/product ... index.html
Motherboard: Intel S5520HCT http://serverconfigurator.intel.com/Det ... px?ID=3851
CPU: tbd
Memory: tbd
HDD: tbd, a mix of SSD, SAS & maybe SATA?

update (per Max)
NIC's: mix & match
Intel Gigabit I340 Quad http://www.intel.com/Products/Server/Ad ... erview.htm
Intel Gigabit ET Quad http://www.intel.com/Products/Server/Ad ... erview.htm

IMHO SAS is an overkill for boot disk.
I'd also like to know one of the most important hardware to be used in your servers: the NICs:)

Max is correct on storage, low performing but cheaper SATA rules. It's CPU and memory responsible for IOPs in your system, not underlying storage.

P.S. And yes, proper network hardware can make or brake the system :)

Max,

I agree about the overkill on the SAS, but I already have the drives, so it is "cheaper" to use them instead of buying more SATA.
oops, thx for the reminder about NIC's (can't believe I forgot that important piece of hardware
I've updated the list to include the NIC's...

Anton,

I agree, NIC's are not the place to "cut corners". You will certainly get what you pay for.
Options are limited; Gigabit or 10 gig, Intel or Broadcom
btw, I have zero experience with 10 gig NICs

What do you consider to be minimum requirements:
CPU: 1 or 2 procs? what speed?
Memory: how much RAM?

1 good quad-core will be good, the RAM amount depends on your caching choice - If you want to speed up each target by adding cache - drop in additional RAM.
