Extending size of HA Device -- risks?

Greetings,

When we first started with Starwind, VMWare 4.x wouldn't accept datastores larger than 2TB. Since then we have upgraded to VMWare 5.x and now that datastores larger than 2TB are allowed, I want to extend the size of the HA device to fill the remainder of the available disk space.

This is a production banking environment and while we do have good backups of each VM and so forth, I'd really rather not have to do a full system restore.

I've been nervous about doing this Extend operation for fear that something could go wrong, but now I am to the point where I need to because of lack of available space.

My question then is how safe is the operation of extending the size of the HA device? Or is it pretty much a non-issue? Has anyone else experience problems/data loss/corruption while performing this function?

Currently using version 5.8.

Thanks so much for any comments.

Loren.

Well, I would suppose by the lack of comments that either:
1. No one understands my question
2. No one wants to tell me that it works fine and then I have problems
3. No one has ever Extended their HA Device

Hmmmmmm. Not sure what to think.

Still would appreciate comments. Or a "best practices" on Extending size of HA Device.

Thanks.

Hello lbroyles,

First of all you need to upgrade your SAN software to the latest version, and after that you will be able to expend the size of HA devices on fly guaranteed.
I think your question is perfectly answered here: http://www.starwindsoftware.com/starwind-faq#q_21

I hope it helped.

A lot of our customers went through this procedure multiple times successfully, it just seams like you had no luck to get answers from them.

I see that you do have active Support Plan, so I think next time if you`ll have some questions that you want to get answers to ASAP you need to email to support, not to forum.
