V8 Feature Request.

All,

When using starwinds in the HA configuration, to do maintenance on one of the nodes you have to stop the service on the node using services.msc. Stopping the services forces a cache flush, and on reboot the node "should" do a partial sync of the HA devices.

I was hoping for a feature in the console that would put the node into "maintenance mode". Putting the node into maintenance mode might not stop the service, but put the node into a state in which the cache was flushed, and be ready for reboot. Also putting it into maintenance mode would give the end user the "warm and fuzzy", that once rebooted the HA devices will do the partial sync vs the full sync. Maintenance mode could also control the amount of notifications being sent, when a node is being rebooted.

If you think this is a good idea +1 it...

Idea is good but unfortunately there's no way to implement it. Here's why: sure we can put node in "service mode" but other partners still handle I/O from live VMs so actual data on all partner nodes would be different when "serviced" node would be back again. Making long story short: no way to avoid re-sync. Cache has nothing to do with this - turning it OFF completely does not make data in-sync.
