StarWind Software

Hi,

I'm poking through your website for quite a wile and I'm pretty sure what StarWind software is capable of (great stuff, I'll try it soon).
But I still didn't get the difference between StarWind iSCSI SAN & NAS V6, StarWind Virtual SAN and StarWind Native SAN for Hyper-V.
Can someone please make that clear for me?

OK, so If I have a physical Windows 2012R2 server, and looking to enhance it's ability as an iSCSI SAN via StarWind FREE (non-trial) product (IT consultant playing in home lab)
What product should I download and use?

I appear to have installed
StartWind iSCSI SAN software release 6.0 build 2013-07-09

Is this the best candidate? It seams that maybe I should have installed StarWind virtual SAN V8

V6 would be EOL-ed quite soon. Please use StarWind Virtual SAN for everything you do now as there are quite a lot of things changed. Thanks!

Sorry to have to be so specific here, but it's really not that obvious what your products are by the name.

I see 4 options,

StarWind Virtual SAN for HyperV -Trial
StarWind Virtual SAN for vSphere -Trial
StarWind Virtual SAN for HyperV -Free
StarWind Virtual SAN for vSphere -Free

Which one do I download to install on a physical Windows box?
-I have no VM on the Windows box, nor so I want any
-All my clients that will connect to the ISCSI drives are vSphere physical hosts
I want the free product, as this is my home lab.

PS maybe I can help point out why I think this is confusing
"Virtual SAN for HyperV" sounds like an appliance that would be loaded as a VM, or directly into the hypervisor on a hyperV host
"Virtual SAN for vSphere" sounds like an appliance that would be loaded as a VM, or directly into the hypervisor on a vSphere host

StarWind Virtual SAN for Hyper-V is what you should be looking at.

Hi Juri,
StarWind iSCSI SAN and StarWind Native SAN are now renamed into StarWind Virtual SAN.
Before, StarWind iSCSI SAN was the product for installing on dedicated SAN servers to be then used with any client OS or hypervisor.
Native SAN was the product for installing on Hyper-V hosts only, and cluster their local or attached storage.
StarWind Virtual SAN supports both of these scenarios depending on the license you choose.
Existing customers, who are currently using our products and have a valid support contract can update to a corresponding StarWind Virtual SAN version free of charge.

bah I don't use HyperV so I guessed at StarWind Virtual SAN for VSphere! thanks, I will re-install the correct froduct.

Products are unified (shared setup and shared core) however some of the components used are built setups (the way StarWind installs and talks to hypervisor) are totally different for Hyper-V and vSphere. FYI.
