This could be a network thing but please see attached from my home lab. 192.168.0.115 is the StarWind server this dialog is generated from. It's found it's own host name. RIVENDELL is a lab set-up of v6 for testing migration. 192.168.0.116 has a blank host - this is actually SAN02.middle-earth.co.uk. The entry is present in DNS.

Wonder if it could be a firewall thing?

Cheers, Rob.

Yes, disabling the firewall helped a bit. Got the name but not the fully qualified names. See attached.

The reason I'm being so anal about this is that the targets end up been named after the server names by default so it's better if they are consistent.

Just to finish the loop, this is looking the other way from SAN02.

We`ll try to reproduce it in our test lab and I`ll get back to you as soon as I will have some news.

Windows 2012 is the underlying operating system here if that helps. I've got two labs at the moment - at home and work. I'll try the same things at work.

What process is being used to discover the nodes on the network? I'm guessing some kind of broadcast that the StarWind servers respond to?

Cheers, Rob.

OK, looks like we need some things to improve. We`ll need few weeks to get it fixed.

It's not mission critical - more of an annoyance. If you manually type in the fully qualified server names, target naming is consistent.

Cheers, Rob.
