PowerShell Script to Install Single Node

Hi all,

I am developing a solution that will requires iSCSI disk presented to a SQL cluster and in order to keep the deployment of the solution simple and "In house" I am looking at options to present a few fairly small disks to a be consumed by a SQL cluster.

I am aware that there are some forum posts about certain configurations / installs using the StarwindX module in PowerShell but I cannot find any pointers to what I am looking for. I am also very new to the software so must apologise for my lack of understanding.

What i need... well... I have installed the software and added the module... I now need a script that will configure the server as an iSCSI target and present the locally attached VMDK (E:\) as several disks to 2 SQL Servers that will then cluster them.

Is this something that the software is designed to do and does someone have any scripts that do this or something smiliar. I am very compentent in PowerShell but due to the lack of documentation or module help and my understanding of the product i am struggling.

I am able to do this with the (dare i mention it here...) Microsoft iSCSI Targer Server feature quite easily, but am keen to compare performance.

I hope someone can get me started....

Thanks in advance,

Mark

Hi there!

Yes, StarWind deinitely does what you need.
Since I`m not sure what exactly device you want to use, I`ll just let you know that StarWindX has some samples of scripts that comes with installation. You can find them by following this path:
C:\Program Files\StarWind Software\StarWind\StarWindX\Samples\powershell

I hope that helped.

Many thanks for the reply - I have since been advised that there is a HA requirement so I have now managed to modify the templates you have pointed me at and seem to be getting somewhere....

As I am likely to be redeploying the solution many many times i have tried to automate as much as possible. As such I am keen to install StarWind on the servers via the command line but cannot see any specific support for this? Is this possible and where might I find some guidance?

many thanks,

Mark

So - to update, I have found some info around installing via cmd line (i assume the executable is compiled with Inno compiler). If so I am able to point it to a inf file containing the details of a previous manual install along with the /verysilent command and it installs. Problem being that it doesn't assign the licence... is there a command to install a licence either during installation or retrospectively in PowerShell?

Many thanks,

Mark

Sure. Unattended setup described in the corresponding section in the help file of StarWind.
