Hi!

During and after installation StarWind Virtual SAN free (version 8 build 7929), the program does not accept 2-node key. 1-node and trial key working.
Cluster of two Windows Server 2012 R2 with Hyper-V role.
Version 8 build is 7929.

How can I install the software?

Greetings

Hello DmitryG!

Please try contacting your account manager in order to get another license. In case you were generating license through our web site form, please try generating it again.
Let me know if it helped, thank you.

I've done it three times already.

According to your screneenshots there's license misuse. So either you've asked for Hyper-V key and try installing it on top of Hyper-V or you use your dual node setup to install it on top of bare metal Windows (which is not supported with a free version usage).

I've dropped a message to your registration e-mail with head of support in CC. He'll proceed with logs and will finalize what you've got on your side.

My native language - Russian. I don`t understand about "top of Hyper-V"

I misunderstood the features of the free version. The matter is closed.
Thanks for the help.

Not a big deal! :)

Most of StarWind technical support engineers talk Russian. Drop us a message to support@starwind.com and we'll be happy to help.

Not a problem at all! :)

There are workarounds (turning all your hosts into hypervisor clusters so you get more CPU/RAM to your VMs, storage would be the same), there are back door paths - checking for limited availability of a custom type of the license (just don't say anything to sales as they will blow torch us for doing that, engineers work for "Sales Prevention Department"). So... Just ASK! :)

So just to be clear. With the free version I can't have 2 servers running Windows 2008 R2 with starwind loaded and create an HA device between them? Your website says that I can't do a "bare-metal cluster" -- however both terms "bare-metal" and "cluster" are very ambiguous terms in the server industry.

Thanks.
Loren.

It is not possible to install free version of StarWind to initial hardware servers for a 2-node configuration. It can be installed only inside Hyper-V VM's.
The solution is to create a VM on each server and install free version of StarWind into it.

This is incorrect. I'm running the free version on 2 physical Hyper-V hosts just fine (I have a problem with MPIO, but that's separate from the license). A VM is only needed if you are installing the VMWare version. The Hyper-V version installs on the actual hosts (although based on other forum postings, they may be having some issues with their license generator).

Yes, this is correct and you are lucky guy Branin, because we changed our licensing policy and now free StarWind usage on top of 2 physical servers is not possible.
