I killed our SAN

Hi all,

We had a SAN configured and running under windows 2008r2/hperv Failover cluster. But it was not correctly configured and while trying to recreate the NAs, we lost a node. Now I have a img file with the data I must recover, but I dont know how to
load or configure it into the virtual SAN.

I dont care if I have to redo the failover cluster, but I must recover the data on that .img file.

Any toughs or should I just pack my stuff and leave? (literally)

Hello,
First of all let me clarify, you had standalone image file device, running in the failover cluster or HA image(two StarWind nodes running)?
In case if you had only one node, and you lost your device(not physical one), you can recreate device based on your existing image file.
Below you can find steps to recreate your device:
- In StarWind Management console create new device(advanced)
- Choose Hard disk device > Virtual disk
- Select Use an existing virtual disk and select your image file
- Finish device creating
- Connect your device via iSCSI initiator
- Your data is available, you no need to pack your staff 8)
Tell us about your progress please.

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, sorry if my initial post was not clear enough. I had 2 servers running starwind, and we reinstalled one. But since the configuration was not correct from the beginning we lost the device.

I tried the steps, in fact I did try them before opening the case, but what prompts me to think I am ding something wrong is the error state after the creation. It adds the image file, but states "error Non active"

I included a snapshot.

Thanks for reply.

Just delete your non active device(NOT the physical one) and follow my steps upwards.

Thank you!

I removed both, the non active and its device, but then I created a new target on the online device and it worked!!!

I appreciate the help. I guess I wont be packing my stuff, at least not for this one
