Storage connection error in Virtual HCI Appliance (VHCA) – urgent support needed

Hello everyone,
I am deploying StarWind Virtual HCI Appliance (VHCA) [+Free] version on Proxmox VE platform, and encountered a rather annoying error. After configuring the network, I added VHCA to Proxmox Cluster but the remaining nodes could not mount storage from VHCA.

Specifically the error:

VHCA shows online, but when other Proxmox nodes try to access storage via iSCSI, they report a timeout error.

I tried turning off the firewall, checking the MTU, and confirming that VHCA is listening to the correct port.

The logs on VHCA do not report any obvious errors, but on Proxmox, the iSCSI target reports “no response from target”.

I am not sure if I am missing any configuration steps (eg: configuring iSCSI target on VHCA?), or is this a limitation of the free version? If anyone has encountered this error, please give me a solution.

Thanks a lot!

Please tell me more about the networking.
Can you ping the Linux bridges on the host from the VM?
Try a different adapter type.

P.S. Consider our support plans https://www.starwindsoftware.com/support.

Hi Yaroslav,

Yes, I can ping the Linux bridges from the VM. No packet loss. Using VirtIO NICs — I’ll try E1000 or VMXNET3 next.

Do I need to manually set up the iSCSI target in the free version, or should that be automatic?

Thanks,
