We have the Backup Plugin and a couple times over the past year, when connecting to the remote hosts, they state no storage pool configured and I start over from scratch. Ie - recreate the pools and dedup targets. Is there any reason why this would happen and is there a way to recover without loosing all the backups previously made?
Thanks

If there were no any significant malfunctions except the one that you are talking about than we have no ideas for now unfrortunatelly.
Can I ask you to doublecheck if you are using the latest version of backup plug-in and if you are, then send the backup service and console logs to
support@starwindsoftware.com (please put the reference to this topic into the subjet of the email)?
Thank you

Well there are a couple problems I have consistently had since we have used the product since last year.
-I have lost all the backups and targets 3-4 times for no apparent reason
-One of my Hyper V host, if I try to connect to it through the mgmt console it always fails the first time with the error of try again or reinstall. The second try it connects.
Our setup is a standalone 2012 Server with the console installed on it. Then there are two Hyper V servers 2012 it is suppose to backup. We have no firewalls internally to block traffic.
I think we should start from the beginning and work through those connection issues?

Can I ask you for some clarifications from you if you don`t mind:
- May we see your network configuration (the visio diagram with explanations prefered)?
- Are all the servers are participating in one domain?
- Can you confirm that all ports that backup plug-in is using (by default its are 9090 and 3261) is opened in any firewalls that are running on machines?
Thank you

Yes on one domain, and there are no firewalls internally, we only use one at the Internet level.
I attached a basic drawing from OneNote as I don't have Visio. Granted there are other servers and equipment, but everything is connected to that backbone switch, there are currently no VLAN or separate subnets.

Ok, so I had to completely uninstall the old version as the service wouldn't start after that upgrade. I'm back up and going and so far I don't have that connection issue where I always had to try twice to connect to one of the hyper v servers. I did have and issue with the license (Which is why I wanted to get a fresh copy to retry). I would get the invalid license error, then choose my license file and it would still say invalid. I had to copy and paste the contents then it worked.
Now is there a way to re-connect my old stores/backups?

Sorry for the delay. Our R&D confirmed that you can just use destination that you`ve used previously to configure the storage pool.

Ok, going to recreate the targets, go through the wizard and then it says I am not licensed for Dedup. I only have one license file so I don't think I could screw that up

Could I be doing something wrong here?

Don`t think so. You are running the Fre version or perpetual? If you are on Free - jsut download the new one from the website. In case of peretual - please contact support@ and we`ll gladly help you out.

Which version should we be using.
We have an HA license that we use for our SAN, then we have this backup license. I don't want to impact the SAN so I have a separate server hosting all the disk for the backup plugin. Should this separate server have the free license on it.

Yeah, it can run the free license if you are not planning to have HA there.

Ok, the backup server is setup with the Free version.
One of our Hyper V servers I installed the agent fresh and have everything setup.
The second one takes for ever to connect to, sits at the Please Wait screen with the gear cogs. Then says Storage Pool not configured, so I click yes lets configure. I instantly get error connection lost. Click OK, then it beings up the create and mount dedup targets.
I just tried a remove and reinstall on that Hyper V Server and it is hanging on the install. Then I get Installation failed. RemoteInstall: Failed to transfer file to the host 172.27.1.27. The data area passed to a system call is too small. (code: 122)(0x8007007a)
This is the one I was tlakign about before would always take two tries to connect to it through starwind. There are no firewalls, so I am not quite sure why it is behaving this way.

Hi
Can I ask you following:
1. Drop us the backup console logs (you can find them by following path: \Users\currentUser\AppData\Roaming\StarWind\5\Console\consolelogs)?
2.Install the custom build of backup service that you was proided with on the second server manualy (just copypaste the installer on the machine and run it)?
Thank you

I'm not sure where the location of this is
"2.Install the custom build of backup service that you was proided with on the second server manualy (just copypaste the installer on the machine and run it)?"
I didn't see anything on the Hyper V server that is working right besides the STarwind directory. What is the executable I should be looking for?
