Hi,

I've installed starwind V6 on server running 2012 R2. this is running the windows dedupe service but not on the existing starwind folder locations (same volume but folder excluded)

It was previously a 2008R2 server with starwindv6 but now there is no deduplication device available ( no UI plugin)

Is this due to starwind recognising an existing dedupe service on 2012 server and disabling this plugin at installation ? Is there any way around this as I need both?

Thanks
Chris

StarWind does not use Windows deduplication for LSFS as Windows dedupe is large blocks (32KB Vs. 4KB in LSFS) and offline so is not usable for running VMs.

Please wait for V8 for deduplication, V6 has set of issues with it...

We just purchased V6 and deduplication is actually one of the things that we were looking forward to with Starwind. So if V6 has issues, when is V8 estimated to be released? We are still in the initial phases of setup so if V8 is not that far around the corner we may just hold off on the setup rather than try to upgrade a live system later.

It's OK to use it for backup destination but it cannot reclaim free space so don't use it for primary VM workload.

We'll have RC2 this or next week and will release V8 before TechEd 2014 US (12-15 May).
