Hello!

I am looking for advice on setting up StarWind.

I am currently running a single box ESXi server with a local RAID-1 storage. However, I am in the process of setting up a second ESXi server and I have decided that it might be a good option to use shared storage. StarWind seems like a good option to do this.

What I am hoping for is that I could plug the existing RAID-1 configuration to a new StarWind installation (3rd server) and share the storage to ESXi servers (without loosing my current data on the RAID-1 configuration).

How would I go about doing this?

Hi!

Since you do not have Storage Vmotion or something like that, your best way would be to backup your data (maybe use free veeam) and restore them once you have setup Starwind.
This would need some extra storage but i assume you (should) use some kind of backup anyway :)

Most important is test, test, test... before you really lose data :)

Regards,
Guido

That is possible, however using RAID 1 and Starwind on top of it is redundant (double mirroring), though it provides for data integrity. Maybe RAID0 is better idea.
