Hi,

Running v5.7 (free) and exploring the DeDuplication features. A Red Exclaimation mark has appeared on the Device and would be grateful for an explanation.

Regards

Could you please provide us with information about what actions you`ve performed before you saw exclamation mark?

Hi,

I have logs which are bigger than your 256Kb limit. How might I submit them?

Zip and send back to support@starwindsoftware.com as keeping them inside forum is not a very good idea.

Hi,

Just discovered 5.7 is a bit of a dog http://www.starwindsoftware.com/forums/ ... dup#p14188 and although the 5.7 release notes state that you can install over 5.6 it (5.7) makes a pig's ear of 5.6!

Can you confirm that you cannot upgrade 5.6 to 5.7 and retain DeDup functionality OR can you?

Thanks,

Asanam

We can for sure. First of all DeDup is experimental feature, so I think it is obvious that it will have some updates before releasing it as ready-to-go product for integration into production systems.
The topic that you found explains some workaround while upgrading when using Deduplication devices, but I see nothing that can point about retaining functionality, so yes, I can confirm that you can upgrade from 5.6 to 5.7, but I`d noted the point that were in the topic above.

Hi,

Grant you that it's an experimental feature. However, it is a contradiction to state that the version upgrade can be done and then go on to state that there are work arounds. In fact, sitting around with hex editors and converters suggests that the DeDup feature is far from ready nor understood by yourselves as other posts suggest?

Perhaps going back to 5.6 is the easier option until there is a clear path to moving further without resorting to 'hacking' bits here and there.

Thanks

Well, lets make it one-by-one:
1.Fact that dedup feature is experimental is mentioned in target wizard (dedup feature is marked by star, so you can`t miss it). It is made to notify people that it is not recommended to put it into production environment;
2.The workarounds that are suggested in the topic that you`ve provided helped us to fix the issue actually, so I don`t really think that yours issue has same reasons, that is why you were asked to provide us with your logs, that we didn`t received yet;
3.Downgrade of the software is always not the best idea since every new version contains not only new features but bugfixes.

Thank you
